Pre-Health Affair 2016

unnamed (1)

On November 22st, 2016 the Student Health Consortium hosted the 7th Annual Pre-Health Affair in the HUB Lyceum. Students joined us at the event for free casino games, mocktails, and social networking. Several health-related RSO’s also tabled at the event, allowing members to meet one another and for other students to find out more about their missions, events, and general meetings. Special thanks to the ASUW Office of Communications for running the photobooth at the event, as well as ASUW Rainy Dawg Radio for providing awesome jazz vibes for the evening!

Going into our 7th year hosting this event, SHC is happy to have once again created a free, fun, and interactive social event for the pre-health community and other students interested in health on campus. This has always been a fun way to interact with other students and get more information about our awesome health-related RSOs. We would like to thank the over 100 students who attended and made this event such a success. In tribute to this casino themed night there were casino tables setup for blackjack and roulette! The attire was semi-formal.

Although the event is free every year, we asked that attendees donated a hygiene item at the door (ie. new socks, toothbrushes, lip balm, hair ties, floss, shampoo, liquid body soap, etc.) for admittance. These items will be donated to the University District Street Medicine (UDSM) which is a cross collaboration of many of the professional schools here. Their goal is to work to spread awareness of our project and to address the healthcare needs of those who are currently homeless within the U-District. The common book this year for all graduate health school students is Catching Homelessness by Josephine Ensign, a nurse practitioner here at UW and a professor within the school of nursing and GWSS. With Tent City 3 coming to UW, it’s also a great time to start educating all students (both graduate and undergraduate) on the topic

Finally, the Student Health Consortium would like to acknowledge the RSO’s who agreed to table at the event and donate items to the raffle drawings held for casino winners throughout the night. We could not have pulled this off without you, and we look forward to many more partnerships in the future!
